When the plane flies in a thin layer of cloud, a clear and cloudless track is left behind. It is the opposite of condensation trail (contrail). It is mainly the result of the warm and humid air emitted by the aircraft being mixed with the surrounding clouds, which can vaporize the existing thin clouds and produce a tail.
